books I read this month

Everything I Read in December 2024

Slow month for no real reason. The Shelley Burr books were good but somehow took me days to read.

The Trials of Lila Dalton by L.J. Shepherd (the ending! Why? So much work up for something about cancel culture??)

Wake by Shelley Burr (great!)

Magical/Realism: Essays on Music, Memory, Fantasy, and Borders by Vanessa Angélica Villarreal (uneven, not super interested in fantasy books)

No One Gets to Fall Apart: A Memoir by Sarah Labrie (felt kind of at a remove)

The Three Women by Valerie Keogh (the ending was wild and the book seemed dated)

Murder Town by Shelley Burr (not quite as good as a first, I’m also not sure why they aren’t selling them as a series in the US)

Baltimore Blues by Laura Lippmann (I read this back in high school! Listening to them now, fun seeing the Baltimore I remember. Canton is a bust here. Major food issues)

A Summer Affair by Elin Hilderbrand (long, not a mystery like I thought it would be)

The Wrong Sister by Claire Douglas (wacky but she always ties everything together)

The Castaways by Elin Hilderbrand (how is this a series? It is a new group of people and a police officer who seems to have no urge to solve crime. How was that not manslaughter?)

Rental House by Weike Wang (nice slice of life)

The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand (re-read, does tie the other two books together)
