books I read this month / thoughts

Everything I Read in February 2025

Slow month! I really read the most in the last week.

I Made It Out of Clay by Beth Kander (cute idea but the main character was awful and clearly had a drinking problem that was never mentioned)

The Next to Die by Sophie Hannah (fun, silly mystery)

The Harder I Fight the More I Love You: A Memoir by Neko Case (sad)

How to Share an Egg: A True Story of Hunger, Love, and Plenty by Bonny Reichert (I was truly surprised at the time line of this book, I thought she was married in like the 1960s. Her life seemed so dated. I also found it odd she made her three sisters into one character and made up some stories she said her father told her. Why?)

What Kind of Paradise by Janelle Brown (fun concept and character but it took place in 1997 and made a lot of references to things that weren’t actually around until the 2000s)

The Last Ferry Out by Andrea Bartz (I didn’t understand why Ezsther wanted to have a relationship with her horrible family but loved the setting)

A Game for All the Family by Sophie Hannah (silly, lots of dogs)

A Killing Cold by Kate Alice Marshall (this book felt so familiar but it just came out so I couldn’t have read it. It was very convoluted and Theo seemed unable to learn)

On the Hippie Trail: Istanbul to Kathmandu and the Making of a Travel Writer by Rick Steves (fun, good photos)

The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware (I swore I read this but when I listened to it on a trip it was not very familiar. I’m intrigued to see what they do with it on screen)

Three Days in June by Anne Tyler (short little slice of life)

The Lost House by Melissa Larsen (a bit of a slog and the ending was pretty obvious)

Invisible Helix by Keigo Higashino with Giles Murray (Translator) (eh)

Do What Godmother Says by L.S. Stratton (a little uneven and flat)

We Would Never by Tova Mirvis (super disappointing! I’ve read her books since college and was really looking forward to it but it was so strange and bad)
