books I read this month

What I read June 2025

Tell Them You Lied by Laura Leffler (with friends like these…)

The Survivors by Jane Harper (re-read before watching the mini series)

How to Lose Your Mother: A Daughter’s Memoir by Molly Jong-Fast (Her mother really was horrible to her)

The Ghostwriter by Julie Clark (clunky, the boyfriend was unneeded)

Best of All Worlds by Kenneth Oppel (Cute idea but relied heavily on stereotypes)

The Creak on the Stairs by Eva Björg Ægisdóttir with Victoria Cribb (Translator) (grim, kind of boring)

Live Fast by Brigitte Giraud with Cory Stockwell (Translator) (sad)

Chemistry by Weike Wang (solid)

The Inheritance by Trisha Sakhlecha (not bad and fun cameo from an earlier book)

The Dark Hours by Amy Jordan (eh)

That’s How They Get You: An Unruly Anthology of Black American Humor Edited by Damon Young (a lot of familiar writers)

Dinner for Vampires: Life on a Cult TV Show (While Also in an Actual Cult!) by Bethany Joy Lenz (wow)

Gingko Season by Naomi Xu Elegant (eh)

The Last Flight by Julie Clark (not good)

We Don’t Talk About Carol by Kristen L. Berry (ok but a little odd)

The Killing Stones by Ann Cleeves (slow start but solid ebook!

The Lies You Tell (AKA Swimming Upstream) by Ruth Mancini (It felt very ’70s but took place in 1992 but I guess that’s England for you!)

One Dark, Two Light by Ruth Mancini (Apparently this is the second book with Sarah the lawyer? I didn’t know until I finished listening and logged it into GoodReads. Not bad but convoluted at times.)

His Perfect Lies (AKA Swimming Home) by Ruth Mancini (Why doesn’t anyone she know believe her?? They are all awful.)

In the Blood by Ruth Mancini (the start of Sarah the lawyer. I worry about the authors’ relationship with men)

The Killer Question by Janice Hallett (cute, slow in the middle)

A Beautiful Family by Jennifer Trevelyan (loved)

Vinegar Girl by Anne Tyler (ok, read because I needed a set in Maryland book for the UMBC alumni reading challenge and it was already on my Kindle)
