books I read this month / review

Everything I Read in February 2026

I was excited the library bought all of the Shady Hollow books on audio because I had read the first two and they were cute but I’d rather be reading something more in-depth. They were perfect for an audiobook though because they were short and easy to follow while doing something else. They did get more involved plot-wise in the last two but still pretty lightweight. Vera can do better than Orville!

Anatomy of an Alibi by Ashley Elston (I felt like I liked her first book but this was a convoluted mess)

Such a Perfect Family by Nalini Singh (I enjoyed the settings more than the plot)

Strangers: A Memoir of Marriage by Belle Burden (the husband is such a loser)

That Night by Gillian McAllister (not my fave)

The Couple in The Photograph by Valerie Keogh (her books are always a little odd)

It Could Have Been Her by Lisa Jewell (fun idea of bringing back an old character but the mystery was a mess)

Good People by Patmeena Sabit (interesting format and story)

Unreliable Narrator by Araminta Hall (interesting premise but felt dated. I was surprised the main character had instagram. Felt more early nineties)

It’s Not Her by Mary Kubica (ok)

Talking to My Father’s Ghost: An Almost True Story by Alex Krokus (eh)

The Women in White: A Novel by Sarah Pekkanen (fun idea)

Ms Ice Sandwich by Mieko Kawakami with Louise Heal Kawai (Translator) (cute, quirky)

The Body by Bethany C. Morrow (I wish more of the religious stuff was explained, I have no church knowledge but I got the gist and liked it)

When the Lights Go Out by Mary Kubica (is she using AI? A lot of the word choices in this one aren’t quite right like using “vacuous” to describe a foyer.)

Death at the White Hart by Chris Chibnal (this read like a tv pitch when I picked it up when it came out and gave up on it. I got through it as an audiobook and I just saw it’s now going to series)

Mirror Lake by Juneau Black

Evergreen Chase by Juneau Black

Twilight Falls by Juneau Black

Phantom Pond by Juneau Black

Summers End by Juneau Black

Cry Havoc: A Novel by Rebecca Wait (slower going than I expected but solid)

Mockingbird Court by Juneau Black (odd shaming about past relationships that wasn’t really addressed)
