books I read this month / thoughts

Everything I Read in January 2024

New year, same me.

Watching Edie by Camilla Way (sad)

Among the Bros: A Fraternity Crime Story by Max Marshall (I wish it was written by someone else who could call out sexism and racism)

Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano (so bad)

Salvation of a Saint by Keigo Higashino (entertaining but I thought the solution was very obvious)

First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston (fun!!)

Rabbit Hole by Kate Brody (blah)

A Midsummer’s Equation by Keigo Higashino with Alexander O. Smith (translator) (not great)

Woman Who Lied by Claire Douglas (fun)

Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak (nonsensical)

Silent Parade by Keigo Higashino with Giles Murray (Translator) (spent too much time on people you didn’t care about)

Trust and Safety: A Novel by Eve Gleichman and Laura Blackett (fun)

A Game of Lies by Clare Mackintosh (cute)

A Darker Domain by Val McDermid (solid)

Only If You’re Lucky by Stacy Willingham (fun)

On the Line: A Story of Class, Solidarity, and Two Women’s Epic Fight to Build a Union
by Daisy Pitkin (the way she chose to write it was very distracting)

Ex-Wife by Ursula Parrott (interesting time capsule)

The Night of the Storm by Nishita Parekh (didn’t make a lot of sense)

Here in the Dark by Alexis Soloski (disappointing!)

No One Can Know by Kate Alice Marshall (fun)

Blessed Water by Margot Douaihy (disappointing, why do we still know so little about the Sister?)

The Last Housewife by Ashley Winstead (I read this not realizing the author was on my do not read list—so bad)

The Skeleton Road by Val McDermid (solid but she reminds me a lot of Ann Cleeves with the weight obsession and killing off long running characters)
