Summer’s Never Over by Darby Bozeman was a drag. It seemed fun and seasonal but it didn’t pay off at all.
Incredibly flat characters for a slow burn mystery/thriller. It wasn’t even clear who was related to who until about 60% through the book. I thought Rig was her stepdad forever. We don’t know these people! Why do we care about them? Just explain who they are in the beginning.
Spoiler:
The author missed a chance to have the killer also be the killer of Greer’s mother as a way to get her to come back to camp. Like the old psychopath joke! Someone who thinks that cutting life jackets and putting holes in boats makes the lifeguard look bad would totally think that was a good idea. Instead, it was natural causes as they said all along.
