books I read this month

What I Read in March 2024

You Know What You Did by K.T. Nguyen (disappointing)

Still Life by Val McDermid (good)

Chronicles of the Juice Man: A Memoir by Juicy J with Soren Baker (he really hates cocaine!)

That’s Not My Name by Megan Lally (eh)

Shred Sisters by Betsy Lerner (blah)

Safe and Sound by Laura McHugh (ok)

The Blue by Lucy Clarke (fun)

Past Lying by Val McDermid (not bad but some weird missing parts)

The Hunter by Tana French (good!)

Murder Road by Simone St. James (eh)

Dear Sister: A Memoir of Secrets, Survival, and Unbreakable Bonds by Michelle Horton (I felt like it was missing some detajls)

This American Ex-Wife: How I Ended My Marriage and Started My Life by Lyz Lenz (I don’t think it quite did what she wanted it to)

A Distant Echo by Val McDermid (ok reread but not really a Karen Pirie book)

Slow Noodles: A Cambodian Memoir of Love, Loss, and Family Recipes by Chantha Nguon with Kim Green (a lot)

Consent by Jill Ciment (interesting post metoo look at her first memoir about her life and marriage to her husband who she met as a teenager when he was in his late forties)

Death at the Sign of the Rook by Kate Atkinson (ok)

If You Can’t Take the Heat: Tales of Food, Feminism, and Fury by Geraldine DeRuiter (thoughts)

The New Couple in 5B by Lisa Unger (slightly uneven retelling of Rosemary’s Baby)

The Dark Wives by Ann Cleeves (I think her best one so far! Really Vera at her best)

The Guest by B.A. Paris (I listened to all of her books largely while away for a class, I realized this was her best by far)

The Dilemma by B.A. Paris (horrible, should have been a short story. Maybe)

The Therapist B.A. Paris (eh)

The Breakdown by B.A. Paris (eh)

Where Sleeping Girls Lie by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé (uneven)

The Best That You Can Do by Amina Gautier (good)

Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris (not great)

Bring Me Back by B.A. Paris (bad)

A Very Private School by Charles Spencer (sad, well written)

Expiration Dates by Rebecca Serle (cute, would make a good mini series)

The Prisoner by B.A. Paris (nonsensical)

The Summer She Went Missing by Chelsea Ichaso (cute but the ending was kind of out of the blue)
