books I read this month

What I Read in September 2026

Take What You Can by Naima Coster (oddly flat)

Big Little Truths by Liane Moriarty (cute sequel)

There Are Ghosts Here by Adrienne Tooley (cute idea but predictable)

You’ll Love It Here by Natalie Sue (would have be fun as a middle grade novel)

Before You Were Anne: A Novel by Emiko Jean (better than the first one but flat and flimsy)

I’m Sorry You Feel That Way: A Novel by Rebecca Wait (funny but nonlinear for some unknown reason)

Strange People on the Hill: How Extremism Tore Apart a Small American Town by Michael Edison Hayden (unexpectedly Berkeley Springs! Poorly written and more of a memoir than journalism)

One of the Family: A Novel by Mark Edwards (poorly done)

The Boyfriend by Michelle Frances (fun idea)

Trad Wife by Sarah Langan (horror as it should be)

The Family Friend by Claire Douglas (fun mystety, nice Bath setting)

The Death Row Club by V.A. Vazquez (some timeline issues? A little messy)

The Playground by Michelle Frances (not my fave)

Honey by Imani Thompson (slice of that PhD student/serial killer life)

No One Saw a Thing by Andrea Mara (fun)

I Am, I Am, I Am: Seventeen Brushes with Death by Maggie O’Farrell (some parts were unbelievable)

She Had Enough: A Novel by Stacie Grey (the earthquake was a fun framework)

Stitched: A Novel by Eli McCann (good grasp on guild dynamics)

Voyagers: A Novel by Meg Charlton (slow)

Accidents Never Happen by Penny Zang (better than her first book and a better grasp on Baltimore)
